No ads. No investors.
GreaseFit is not a startup. It exists because nutrition apps kept putting the barcode scanner behind a subscription, and the basics should not cost anything.
Why this exists
Most nutrition trackers start out free. Then the barcode scanner moves behind a paywall. Then the free tier fills up with ads. Then the app gets slower every release, because every release adds something that serves the business rather than the person holding the phone.
GreaseFit is built to avoid that shape. The things you do every single day, scanning, logging and checking your macros, are free and always will be, because nothing about the business model depends on making them annoying.
It is funded by the people who choose to support it, not by advertisers and not by investors. That keeps the incentives pointed at the app being good rather than at holding your attention.
“Put some elbow grease into it.”
What GreaseFit will not do
These are not aspirations. They are constraints, and they are the reason the app looks the way it does.
No ads. Not later, either.
There is no advertising SDK in the app, so there is no infrastructure sitting there waiting to be switched on. Nothing is paid to be featured, and no brand can buy its way into a recommendation.
No investors to answer to
Nobody owns a piece of this. There is no board asking for engagement metrics, no funding round that has to be justified with growth, and no acquisition anyone is optimising toward.
No paywall on the basics
Logging food, scanning barcodes, tracking macros and micronutrients, building recipes by hand, logging workouts: free, permanently. A membership raises your daily AI quota and unlocks the AI recipe scan, which every new account can try for 30 days.
No dark patterns
No countdown timers, no streak guilt, no interstitial you have to dismiss twice. You can delete your account from inside the app without emailing anyone to beg.
No overstating what it does
The features page lists what GreaseFit does not do, right underneath what it does. If a feature is not built, it is not advertised. Where an older description overstated something, it gets corrected rather than quietly left up.
The details
Feel your best. Let the app do the rest.
