GreaseFit as a Lose It alternative

Of every tracker you could be moving from, this is the one GreaseFit handles best, because it is the only one with a real importer. Your food history, your custom foods and your weight log come across with you instead of being left behind.

A note on fairness

This page does not quote Lose It's prices or feature list, because those change and a stale comparison helps nobody. Everything claimed about GreaseFit below is verified. Everything about your current app is a question for you to check.

The main reason to read this page

Your history comes with you

Export your data out of Lose It, upload the zip on this website, and the importer unpacks it into your account. It runs on the web rather than in the app.

What actually comes across

  • Custom foods, with name, brand, serving size, calories, fat, saturated fat, protein, carbohydrates, sugars, fiber, cholesterol and sodium
  • Food log entries, deduplicated into foods and placed at the right time of day from the Meal column
  • Weight entries
  • Step counts
  • Exercise logs, with name, type, quantity and calories burned
  • Water intake
  • Profile details (birthday, gender and height), filled in only where you have not already set them

Worth knowing

  • ·Rows you had deleted in Lose It are skipped rather than resurrected.
  • ·Weights are read as kilograms.
  • ·The upload is a .zip: the archive you get from Lose It's data export, not individual CSV files.
  • ·Lose It is currently the only importer GreaseFit supports.

What you would gain

Free barcode scanning, permanently

No daily cap, no subscription gate, no ad before the result.

Vitamins and minerals, not just macros

Eight minerals, eight vitamins and caffeine, scored against EU, US, UK or WHO reference intakes rather than a single hard-coded standard.

A recipe builder with honest per-serving maths

Ingredients, step-by-step instructions with a photo per step, and a serving count that divides the totals when you save.

Detailed strength training

Sets with weight, reps and RPE, plus heart rate and time in zone, not just a duration and a calorie guess.

EU hosting and no advertising business

Servers in Amsterdam, no ad SDK in the app, and an opt-out for usage statistics.

What you would give up

The honest other half.

No offline logging

On the roadmap

A connection is required. Your data lives server-side so it follows you between devices.

No meal planner or shopping list

On the roadmap

Neither is built.

No Apple Health, Google Fit or Health Connect

On the roadmap

Nothing syncs from a watch, ring or smart scale through those platforms.

No step count on iPhone yet

On the roadmap

Steps are read from the device sensor on Android only.

A smaller barcode registry

On the roadmap

Built from foods people saved rather than licensed. Missing items you add once and keep.

How to switch, step by step

  1. Create a free GreaseFit account and verify your email address.
  2. In Lose It, find the data export option in your account settings and request your data. It arrives as a .zip archive.
  3. Open greasefit.com on a computer, sign in, and upload that zip on the import page.
  4. Check the result: open a few past days and confirm your food entries and weights landed where you expect.
  5. Set your macro targets, or run the TDEE calculator, since targets do not come across in the export.
  6. Choose your nutrient reference standard: EU, US, UK or WHO.
  7. Turn on the reminders you want, and leave the rest off.

Who this is actually for

If you have years of Lose It history you do not want to abandon, this is the smoothest move available; it is the only migration GreaseFit automates. If you rely on offline logging or health-platform sync, it is not the right swap.
