GreaseFit as a Cronometer alternative
Cronometer is built around detailed nutrient tracking, and it does that very well. This page is honest about where it beats GreaseFit, and about the narrower reasons you might switch anyway: no ads, data stored in the EU, free AI photo estimates and detailed strength training.
How this page was checked
Every statement about Cronometer on this page was checked against Cronometer's own website, help center, privacy policy and app store listings on 9 October 2026, and the sources are listed at the bottom. Plans and prices change, so read it as a snapshot from October 2026. Anything we could not confirm on Cronometer's own pages is left out rather than guessed. Everything about GreaseFit is a verified fact.
What you would gain
No ads on the free plan
As of October 2026, Cronometer's Android app carries the Play Store's "Contains ads" label and lists an ad-free experience as a Gold feature. GreaseFit has no advertising SDK in the app at all.
Your data stored in Amsterdam
Cronometer's privacy policy says data is stored on servers in the United States. GreaseFit keeps accounts, logs and photos in Amsterdam under the GDPR; the privacy policy names the few services that handle data outside the EU.
AI photo estimates on the free plan
Cronometer lists photo logging as a Gold feature. In GreaseFit, photographing a product, label or plated meal to pre-fill the editor is free, within 5 AI credits a day.
Detailed strength training
Sets with weight, reps and RPE, plus duration, heart rate and time in each heart-rate zone.
Recipes with a photo per step
Ingredients, step-by-step instructions with photos, and a serving count that divides the totals. Building recipes by hand is free on every plan.
What you would give up
The honest other half, about GreaseFit itself.
No Cronometer importer
On the roadmapThere is no Cronometer import. Lose It is the only importer today, so your history stays behind and your regular foods are set up by hand. If you would use a Cronometer importer, contact us.
A smaller, less detailed food database
On the roadmapGreaseFit's barcode registry is built from foods people have saved, not from lab-analysed nutrient tables. For depth of nutrient data per food, Cronometer is ahead.
Steps only from Apple Health or Health Connect
On the roadmapNothing else is read and nothing is written back, and there is no Google Fit, so weight or workouts from a watch, ring or scale do not appear.
No watch app or widget
On the roadmapThere is no watch app and no home-screen widget.
No offline logging
On the roadmapA connection is required to log. Your data lives server-side so it follows you between devices.
Where Cronometer is stronger
From Cronometer's own pages, as of October 2026. If these are the reasons you use Cronometer, it is probably the better tool for you.
A verified, lab-based food database
Cronometer draws on sources such as NCCDB, USDA and the Dutch NEVO table, verifies every submitted item, and lists more than 1.1 million verified foods.
Many more nutrients
Its Gold page lists up to 84 nutrients on the free plan and up to 95 with Gold. GreaseFit tracks 15 vitamins and minerals plus cholesterol and caffeine.
Web app, Apple Watch and device sync
Cronometer runs on the web, iOS and Android, has an Apple Watch app, and connects to devices such as Fitbit, Garmin, Oura, WHOOP, Dexcom and Withings.
Self-service CSV export
From account settings you can export diary entries, exercises, biometrics, notes and nutrition summaries as CSV. In GreaseFit, a copy of your data is available on request by email.
A German interface
Cronometer's changelog says the app can be used in French and German. The GreaseFit app is not available in German.

How to move from Cronometer
There is no Cronometer importer, so this is manual. Your Cronometer CSV export is still worth keeping as a personal archive.
- Create a free account and set your macro targets, or run the built-in TDEE calculator for a starting point.
- Pick the reference standard you want your vitamins and minerals scored against: EU, US, UK or WHO.
- Note the twenty or thirty foods you log most often in Cronometer, with the nutrients you care about.
- Add those foods once. Custom foods take the full micronutrient set, so copy the values across while you are at it.
- Scan barcodes as you unpack your shopping. Anything not in the registry you save once, and it stays linked to that barcode.
- Rebuild your two or three regular recipes with a serving count so one portion comes out right.
Who this is actually for
If nutrient depth and a verified database are why you use Cronometer, it is the stronger tool and you should probably stay. GreaseFit suits you if you want no ads at all, data stored in the EU, set-by-set strength logging, and the 15 vitamins and minerals most people actually watch.
